Treat your Commodore 64, 128, 128D, C116, 16, and +4 the way it was meant to, in the best picture quality available to it without modding your computer.  Connect a Commodore Computer (with the 8-pin DIN AV Connector) to either an S-Video Connector or Composite Video RCA. It also includes left and right audio connectors. Enjoy your Commodore at its best!
- Over 5 Feet in length
Options:
- 300 Ω resistor - The resistor will offer better picture quality on an LCD. It doesn't make much difference on a standard CRT monitor/TV.
- Stereo Audio - If your C64 has been modded to support stereo audio, we can wire up the red RCA connector to Pin 7. Compatible with SID2SID, SwinSID, DualSID, and others.
To connect your computer to a TV with HDMI, check out the Armor3 Composite AV to HDMI Adapter that will take the output from this cable and upscale the output, and make it compatible with HDMI monitors!
NOTE: In earlier versions of the Commodore 64, Commodore didn't include the Chroma or Luminance connections required for S-Video. Â If your Commodore 64 only has a 5-Pin AV Connector, you will not be able to use this cable. Please look at our standard AV cable instead.

I also got the cable with the resistor and stereo audio… The item I purchased was well worth buying, and the company was excellent as well with their customer service. The cable worked like a charm, especially when I also used a S-Video/VGA converter. I recommend this item and will purchase from this company for whatever else I have a need for. Obviously, I am a satisfied customer!

I am working on some C64s and wanted the best possible video signal (without modding the C64). The SVideo cable with the resistor is working great for me. Would happily buy again.

Well made, well constructed and works as advertised. Very nice quality. I have ordered again already… Definitely worth getting 300 ohm resistor. Fast shipping as well.

Absolutely zero regrets buying this cable from 8BitClassics.com. I chose my cable with the optional resistor and it arrived less than a week after placing the order. I must say I have never witnessed sharpness anywhere near as good as this from my UK PAL Commodore 64C. S-Video vs Composite is a night & day difference folks, believe me! I have the S-Video end plugged into an Orei XD-1090 (available from Amazon) to convert the PAL input signal to NTSC, and then from there it’s HDMI-out to my 65″ Samsung Series 8 TV. The result is what you see in the attached picture. Truly amazing! I’ll be sure to send people your way from my YouTube channel. Thanks again.

Works perfectly, just as you’d expect. I got the one with the extra resistor and it looks great on any LCD I’ve tried it on.
I’ve only noticed one problem, and that’s a bright green smudge on the right hand side of the screen when my C64 is connected to a RetroTink Mini HDMI upscaler. I don’t get the green smudge in any other configuration, so it might be a problem with the RetroTink.

Thank you for sharing. If possible could you post a picture of the smudge when using the RetroTink?

Purchased with 300Ω resistor. Works great! I installed an FPGASID and the stereo output was another feature of this cable I was looking for. Very high quality. Shipping was very quick. I am very pleased with this purchase. Thank you!

I purchased this with the 300Ω resistor. I use the s-video on an old school 4:3 LCD tv. Picture is clear. Even better when I connect to a crt tv. Great product. I’ve bought a couple of cables for my commodore and TI-99/4A and both products are perfect. Makes my retro gaming a great experience. Thanks guys.

I dug my old C64 out of the garage for a milestone birthday get together with some old friends to surprise them. After researching how the heck to hook up the C64 to a modern TV, I discovered 8-Bit Classics. I ordered the version with the 300Ω resistor and it worked like a charm! Plus, Corey was super nice on fulfillment: I was on a tight timeline and he went out of his way to make the adapter and ship it the same day. As a result, I received it in time and we had a great time playing old games 🙂

I purchased the one with the 300 ohm resistor. I was extremely pleased with the quick turnaround and communications from the seller. After nearly two months of excuses and no product shipment for a similar product from another vendor in the Commodore space–this was a breath of fresh air!
I have used the device on an older LCD tv as well as my HD monitor through an upscaler, and the device performs as expected and the picture quality is good.
Will definitely consider 8bitclassics again for any of my retro needs.

I got the version with the 300 Ohm resistor. Running the output through a S-Video to HDMI on an S-Video to VGA converter or directly into a DLP projector’s S-Video connector results in high quality video output.
In addition the ordering process was easy, prices were reasonable and the cable was received quickly.

Without this cable my C64 would be completely useless. Working great on a flat panel with the added resistor, video over RF to a flat panel was illegible. This also allows me to hook the audio out into my sampler. The C64 never looked or sounded so good!

Question
JohnTalent –
What connector is the S-Video output (the TV end)? Is it male or female? Also, how many pins is the s-video output of the connector. Thank you very much. I look forward to hearing from you.

It is a male 4-pin connector on the cable.

Wonderful! It’s been a long time since I have had the Commodore 128 in action as my 1902A monitor is out of commission. This cable has got me going. (got the 300 Ohm resistor as well). The RCA jacks saved me as I am going through an S Video to VGA adapter and the RCA jacks give me an output to the audio switchbox. This is a nerd dream! Thanks again.

The resistor option makes it an excellent product for an LCD screen. I have another cable which has no resistor and the display is not as good (same differences as on the pictures above).

This cable is great! The quality up on my 32″ LCD is clear and allows me to work on my C64 with no issues. Having the left and right audio channel is great also, as the entire purpose of my C64 is to make noise for a music project. This is a most have cable, and 8-bit does a great job on getting the order out. Each order has arrived within 5 business days.

Good quality product and actually fixed my problem I was having with my original 35 year old cable. Cory et al are doing it right. 🙂

I’ve been using this for a few months with both a C64 and a C128 and have zero complaints. It works as it should. Great product.

Question
Gareth Poole –
Is there any disadvantage to getting the stereo version if I don’t have the stereo mod? Is the mono version mostly just there to make it more convenient to get the signal out of both channels out of a stereo TV? I suppose if there is that slight advantage it might make sense to get the mono version. Thanks for reading and I hope to get one soon.

8-Bit Classics –
It depends on the TV. Yes, the left & right channels on a standard mono cable will just reproduce the signal on both channels. But this can sometimes create feedback as some users have experienced and they just leave one channel unplugged. So for the stereo version, as long as nothing is connected to the new stereo pin on the C64, it should be fine having it plugged in or unplugged.

I ordered this on a late Friday evening and to my shock it was prepared and shipped next day. They showed examples of what the resister did and was confirmed by others. Just from this alone I will order again when the time arises.

I picked up a couple C64s in an estate sale that didn’t have any video cables. A friend pointed me your way and I got one with the resistor and noise reduction. I’m really impressed with the build quality and the materials used. The VIC-II I’m using is one of the old ceramic ones and the output through this cable is fantastic. The attached screenshot isn’t even using the s-video; this is just RCA. I would absolutely buy again.
