2/28/2024 - Just a small update. We are almost completely out of 5-pin DIN connectors needed for a few cables. We have more ordered from two suppliers. We expect them in early next week to continue processing those orders. We have been briefly delayed on PC boards as we were out of supplies as well. Those should be in by the end of this week and we will start working on them again.

2/25/2024 - We are continuing to process orders. We had and have a few larger orders which is slowing things down but making good progress. We are still hopeful to get things caught up in a week or so and appreciate your patience. Orders received will ship in the order we received them. If you by some chance want to cancel you order, either use the Contact Us page and include you invoice # and order details or respond to the original email invoice we sent you. It may take a couple days to process. Thank you for your patience.

Treat your Commodore 64, 128, 128D, C116, 16, and +4 the way it was meant to, in the best picture quality available to it without modding your computer.  Connect a Commodore Computer (with the 8-pin DIN AV Connector) to either an S-Video Connector or Composite Video RCA.  It also includes left and right audio connectors.  Enjoy your Commodore at its best!
  • Over 5 Feet in length
Options:
  • 300 Ω resistor - The resistor will offer better picture quality on an LCD. It doesn't make much difference on a standard CRT monitor/TV.
  • Stereo Audio - If your C64 has been modded to support stereo audio, we can wire up the red RCA connector to Pin 7. Compatible with SID2SID, SwinSID, DualSID, and others.

To connect your computer to a TV with HDMI, check out the Armor3 Composite AV to HDMI Adapter that will take the output from this cable and upscale the output, and make it compatible with HDMI monitors!

NOTE: In earlier versions of the Commodore 64, Commodore didn't include the Chroma or Luminance connections required for S-Video.  If your Commodore 64 only has a 5-Pin AV Connector, you will not be able to use this cable. Please look at our standard AV cable instead.

Purchased with 300Ω resistor. Works great! I installed an FPGASID and the stereo output was another feature of this cable I was looking for. Very high quality. Shipping was very quick. I am very pleased with this purchase. Thank you!

This cable is great! The quality up on my 32″ LCD is clear and allows me to work on my C64 with no issues. Having the left and right audio channel is great also, as the entire purpose of my C64 is to make noise for a music project. This is a most have cable, and 8-bit does a great job on getting the order out. Each order has arrived within 5 business days.

The resistor option makes it an excellent product for an LCD screen. I have another cable which has no resistor and the display is not as good (same differences as on the pictures above).

    Thanks for the RCA!

Wonderful! It’s been a long time since I have had the Commodore 128 in action as my 1902A monitor is out of commission. This cable has got me going. (got the 300 Ohm resistor as well). The RCA jacks saved me as I am going through an S Video to VGA adapter and the RCA jacks give me an output to the audio switchbox. This is a nerd dream! Thanks again.

Without this cable my C64 would be completely useless. Working great on a flat panel with the added resistor, video over RF to a flat panel was illegible. This also allows me to hook the audio out into my sampler. The C64 never looked or sounded so good!

I purchased the one with the 300 ohm resistor. I was extremely pleased with the quick turnaround and communications from the seller. After nearly two months of excuses and no product shipment for a similar product from another vendor in the Commodore space–this was a breath of fresh air!

I have used the device on an older LCD tv as well as my HD monitor through an upscaler, and the device performs as expected and the picture quality is good.

Will definitely consider 8bitclassics again for any of my retro needs.

I also got the cable with the resistor and stereo audio… The item I purchased was well worth buying, and the company was excellent as well with their customer service. The cable worked like a charm, especially when I also used a S-Video/VGA converter. I recommend this item and will purchase from this company for whatever else I have a need for. Obviously, I am a satisfied customer!

I dug my old C64 out of the garage for a milestone birthday get together with some old friends to surprise them. After researching how the heck to hook up the C64 to a modern TV, I discovered 8-Bit Classics. I ordered the version with the 300Ω resistor and it worked like a charm! Plus, Corey was super nice on fulfillment: I was on a tight timeline and he went out of his way to make the adapter and ship it the same day. As a result, I received it in time and we had a great time playing old games 🙂

Works perfectly, just as you’d expect. I got the one with the extra resistor and it looks great on any LCD I’ve tried it on.

I’ve only noticed one problem, and that’s a bright green smudge on the right hand side of the screen when my C64 is connected to a RetroTink Mini HDMI upscaler. I don’t get the green smudge in any other configuration, so it might be a problem with the RetroTink.

Absolutely zero regrets buying this cable from 8BitClassics.com. I chose my cable with the optional resistor and it arrived less than a week after placing the order. I must say I have never witnessed sharpness anywhere near as good as this from my UK PAL Commodore 64C. S-Video vs Composite is a night & day difference folks, believe me! I have the S-Video end plugged into an Orei XD-1090 (available from Amazon) to convert the PAL input signal to NTSC, and then from there it’s HDMI-out to my 65″ Samsung Series 8 TV. The result is what you see in the attached picture. Truly amazing! I’ll be sure to send people your way from my YouTube channel. Thanks again.

I picked up a couple C64s in an estate sale that didn’t have any video cables. A friend pointed me your way and I got one with the resistor and noise reduction. I’m really impressed with the build quality and the materials used. The VIC-II I’m using is one of the old ceramic ones and the output through this cable is fantastic. The attached screenshot isn’t even using the s-video; this is just RCA. I would absolutely buy again.

An Anticipatory Awesome Purchase + Amazing CSR

    Michael Pongracz (verified owner)

So my ‘actual’ review of the cable (C64 w/resistor) will have to wait until I get it. Ordered originally early in January and thru no fault of my own (postal incompetency and apparently crappy neighbours), I never actually received my cable. That’s where the amazing CSR comes in… I reached out to Corey and he was completely understanding and helpful, offering to send out a replacement if it didn’t turn up. Just a fantastic guy and a real bright spot in this classic console industry. So thanks again Corey and I’m just looking forward to firing up my old C64 in the studio here when the replacement arrives! No if only I could replace my neighbours…. LOL!

    Excellent Cable-Proper Cable

    Smith Nash (verified owner)

The best part about this cable is the fact it is built well. It’s true you can take the wrong DIN plug using the 270 degree pin arrangement and remove pin 6 and 7 because they are not used to make the C64, Atari cable. This cable is true to the original by using the 262 degree pin arrangement making this a more authentic cable with the added benefit of an S-Video plug.
After plugging the cable into my C64 from 1983 I used the S-Video cable end to attach to a Vizio TV monitor, I found the image quality quite sharp and stable. Only the C64’s traditional “jail bars” were faintly visible. I switched over to the Composite plug and the image quality was also good but not as good as the S-Video which is typical. Composite has to combine Luma, Chroma, and Sync into one cable and that inherently causes some cross interference. This NOT the fault of the cable but due to the way the C64 video circuit was designed.
All in all I am very happy with the cable and hope it will provide me a long service life.

Didn't work on a couple year old VISIO even with a resistor.

    Joshua Dolan (verified owner)

Our living room VISIO 50in 4k TV refused to display an image from the SX-64 with the resistor version of this cable. The TV was detecting the signal and would blank out the no signal message when connected, but nothing was ever displayed. I have used other composite devices on the TV and they do work so I know it isn’t the TV. Just one of those things I suppose. However, connected to my old Dell LCD monitor that has just about every input you can think of as well as a late generation RCA Truflat 14in TV the picture looks really really good… better than I ever remember a C64 looking when I was a kid. I am totally happy with the purchase.

Excellent quality cable. Went with the 300ohm resister option for an improved s-video output and the ANR option which reduces the noise output from the sid chip. Listening to 100’s of sid tunes at the moment which sound much clearer. Thanks Corey I’ll be back for more.

The cable arrived quickly and without fuss. The cable is very nice quality, and it shows when in use, even when just using it through a cheap composite to HDMI converter. There aren’t enough U.S. based outfits like 8-Bit Classics (quicker shipping, no customs), and I sincerely appreciate that it exists. I would happily buy more cables from this place!

Purchased with the 300 Ω resistor and I’m connecting through an S-Video to VGA converter and the video quality is really good. I think it would be even sharper if connected directly to an LCD with built-in S-Video input, but my 4:3 LCD only supports VGA. Still, looks really good. Happy with the purchase.

This is the second cable I’ve purchased from 8-Bit Classics, and this time I added the resistor and noise reduction for this one. Both with and without the extra filtering, the cables are great and I highly recommend them. Super sturdy and well built. Used to connect my C64, C128 and Plus/4 to my flat screen TV as well as via S-Video to a VGA adaptor, and they look great. (The VIC-20 requires a different cable.)
